Heat Hot Water Cooking Home Site Map
| The main source of heat for the house is four woodstoves located in: the playroom, the pool room, the family room and the living room. Generally the two in the playroom and pool room are on all winter and the others are lit as needed. Heat dispersal is via milivolt fans which are themselves powered by the heat which they disperse and via a plenum which captures heat from the pool room stove and directs it through floor vents to the family room. Additional heat is available from hot air panels on the roof and from a propane stove | |||||||||||||

| In the winter, while the stoves are burning the stove in the playroom is also used to heat hot water. It is a standard stove which was drilled out in the back and a water heat coil was inserted. Water flows in at the bottom of the coil, is heated and flows into the same preheat tank as the water from the copper cricket solar water heat panel. If the water in this preheat tank exceeds 115o, the water bypasses the propane back up heater and is used directly. If the water temperature falls below 115o it flows into the propane heat tank and less propane is used as the water is already preheated. |

The wood stove in the living room has special cook surfaces and removable inserts to facilitate cooking. when were are adventuresome enough to bake on the woodstove, a camp-stove bake unit can be placed directly on top of the stove and used for baking.
